We've gone to great lengths to make our cushions as water resistant as possible, but nothing is foolproof. It's always best to bring them inside when it rains. The cushions will survive occasionally getting wet, but be sure to let them thoroughly dry afterwards. For more information, please view our complete Care & Maintenance Instructions.
If something spills on your Outer cushion, the best thing to do initially is to hose off the stain. For normal care, mix 2 ounces of a mild soap such as Woolite with a gallon of lukewarm water. Use a soft bristle brush to clean the fabric. Rinse thoroughly and air dry. For tougher stains, a mild bleach solution can be used. For more information, please view our complete Care & Maintenance Instructions.
The OuterShell® covers are designed for daily protection of your cushions to keep them clean, dry, and ready to use. We recommend an All-Weather Cover if you live in climates that experience frequent rain, snow, wind, and other inclement weather conditions to further protect and extend the life of your entire Outer Sofa. The All-Weather Cover was created to eliminate the need to store your sofa in the off-season.
The Outer wicker frame and the cast stainless steel legs are covered by an industry-leading 10-year warranty, while the cushions and All-Weather Wicker material have a 5-year limited warranty. Check out the full details on our Warranty page.
Our wicker is handcrafted by skilled artisans, not machine-manufactured. Each steel frame is hand-welded to guarantee that it’s durable and the bead welding is aesthetically clean. A master weaver assembles each chair with our synthetic wicker, a process which can take up to 11 hours and use 1/2 mile of wicker. Our proprietary all-weather wicker is made of a 5mm round core combination of high-and low-density polyethylene.
We offer a 10-year warranty.
Aluminum is weather-resistant and will never rust, decay, or loosen over time.
Our frames are built to last. They are not Flat pack or RTA (ready to assemble). You will not find any screws or frame assembly instructions with our Collection. Simply take it out of the box, put the cushion on, and you’re ready to go. It’s all part of our goal to get people enjoying life outside as easily as possible.
Simply wipe away spills or spray the aluminum frame down with water— it won’t rust.
For bigger messes, hose off the frame with a spray hose on a medium setting to loosen dirt and dust. The same cleaning formula used on your fabrics can also be used to clean the aluminum. (2 ounces of mild soap, such as Woolite or Dawn dishwashing liquid, to 1 gallon of lukewarm water). Clean the aluminum with a soft bristle brush. Rinse thoroughly with a spray hose and let the frame air dry before storing it or putting it back in use. If possible, let it dry in filtered sunlight or partial shade rather than intense sun.
Aluminum was a natural choice for our latest collection. It’s one of the easiest materials to recycle, and is virtually maintenance-free, making it both good for the planet and for outdoor living enthusiasts. In addition, the material is lightweight, durable, and stylish.
We use a 6063 Aluminum alloy.
Compared to steel, aluminum does NOT get as hot when temperatures are rising. It takes more energy to heat up aluminum with the same mass as steel to get to ambient temperature. Aluminum dissipates heat faster, resulting in a lower temperature than steel. Aluminum remains comfortable to sit on during hot summer days.
Our frames are built with extruded aluminum tubing, but you will notice that our legs have a sleek tapered silhouette. This detail is what makes our design stand out from the rest. We do this by incorporating an additional step during manufacture called Swaging. Swedging is a forging process that involves the use of compressive forces to manipulate the shape, creating our tapered leg.
You won’t find any screws or assembly instructions with our collection. Simply take it out of the box and add cushions--it’s that easy.
Yes! Our Aluminum Collection is made from extruded aluminum tubing that’s lightweight enough for a single person to move it around easily, but not so light it will blow away in inclement weather.
An armless chair with cushions weighs only 32 pounds.
Fully: Aluminum is one of the easiest materials to recycle at the end of its (long) lifespan.
When you receive your teak furniture, wipe down all surfaces of the teak, including underneath the frame or table, with soapy water prior to placing the new cushions on top. This will help prevent natural teak oil from staining the cushion fabric. To clean natural teak oil from cushion fabric, quickly combine equal parts dishwashing liquid and warm water on the stain and rinse thoroughly. For more information, please view our complete Care & Maintenance Instructions.
Because of its natural oils and characteristic durability, you don’t need to stain or seal teak. Over time your teak furniture will fade from the original golden color to a distinct silver gray finish. If you’d like to maintain the original color you can opt to use a commercially available teak sealant. Follow the directions provided by the manufacturer for best practices.
Cleaning teak patio furniture is relatively simple, and most routines only require a mild detergent and water mix along with a bristled brush to keep your items looking great. Over time your teak furniture will fade from the original golden color to a distinct silver gray finish. For deeper cleaning or to restore the color back to the original golden tone, you can use teak cleaner such as Star Brite’s Teak Cleaner and Losso’s Teak Cleaner. Follow the directions provided by the manufacturer for best practices. For more information, please view our complete Care & Maintenance Instructions.

Our Teak Collection is proudly Forest Stewardship Council® certified, the leading international authority on sustainable forest management.
The FSC® certification guarantees that our teak wood is harvested from sustainably managed forests and that the harvested tree is either replaced or allowed to regenerate. A FSC® designation is considered the "gold standard" for wood harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, socially beneficial, environmentally conscious, and economically viable.
Our teak wood is sourced from responsibly managed teak fields in Central Java. For each tree we harvest, the farm plants three more in its place. A single teak tree can absorb 10kg of carbon every year, helping offset climate change.
Teak contains natural oils that protect it from rot, and that's an important reason why craftspeople use it to make boat decks and outdoor furniture. If possible, it’s a good idea to store your furniture at the end of the season. If you’re unable to store your furniture, make sure you buy covers that are designed to stand up to the rigors of the elements, which is especially vital if you live somewhere with harsh winters.
A moist environment creates ideal conditions for mold and mildew growth. It’s a good idea to store your furniture at the end of the season. Yes. The Teak Modular Seating Collection includes a complimentary set of stainless steel connector clips that customers can optionally install to secure their individual pieces together.
Each piece within the Teak Seating Collection comes with an anti-slide velcro strip (or two in the case of the armless loveseat) that helps to prevent the cushions from sliding around when in use. This velcro strip is affixed to the slats of the frame and meets the factory-installed velcro strip on the bottom of the cushions.
Teak seating products come fully assembled. You will simply need to unpack the items, arrange the pieces, affix the anti-slide Velcro strips, and apply the optional connector clips. For coffee tables, you will be required to attach the legs using the supplied hardware and tooling.
The Outer Fire Pit Table is configured for compatibility with a propane gas tank. Converting the Fire Pit Table to a natural gas line configuration is technically possible, but it is a complex process that should only be handled by a professional.
The Outer Fire Pit Table is configured only for use w a 20 lb. LPG cylinder. The propane tank is not included, but they are readily available from local hardware stores.
An after-market longer gas hose may be purchased separately to allow for more distance between the propane tank and the base of the unit.
The Outer Fire Pit Table should only be used for cooking with Outer cooking accessories such as our griddle pan and stands.
The burner pan of this Fire Pit Table is designed to receive any of a variety of aftermarket media, including lava stones, lava granules, fire glass, and ceramic balls. Outer, Inc. offers ceramic balls for sale at Liveouter.com. The other types of media must be purchased separately.
The Fire Pit Table is intended for outdoor enjoyment only. Do not use indoors.
The Outer Fire Pit Table provides 55,000 BTUs, enough to warm up a larger area.
The Fire Pit Table should be installed by a qualified service professional and must be installed outside, on a flat, stable surface away from any combustible materials, and at least 4 feet (48 in.) away from any building structure or plants. The unit should not be installed on dirt or grass. A concrete or slate patio surface is ideal, but the unit may be installed on a wooden deck.
Be sure to install the Fire Pit Table outside in a fully vented area with no overhang or trees within 6 feet (72 in.) above the unit. The Fire Pit Table creates a controlled open-flame, so use common sense when positioning. The Fire Pit Table needs to “breathe” during operation and pulls air in through vents located along the bottom edge. Avoid placing anything up against the sides of the unit that could block air to these vents.

Insect Shield gear repellency remains effective through 25 launderings for washable items.
Extensive allergy/skin sensitivity tests have been conducted by the Hohenstein Institute, an accredited test laboratory and research institute specializing in the testing and certification of textiles. The Allergy/Skin Sensitization Test was conducted and Insect Shield was awarded the following Quality Labels:
Insect Shield technology is used in a wide assortment of pet products including beds, blankets, cots, gaiters, bandanas and apparel items. While permethrin has been known to be harmful to cats in liquid form, Insect Shield repellency is so tightly bound to the fabric fibers in such minimal amounts that it does not pose a risk to cats, or when used in multi-pet households.
Insect Shield apparel puts insect repellency near your skin, instead of on it, and the protection is invisible. Also, the repellency is long lasting so no re-application is needed, which is convenient, and can help alleviate concerns about overuse and misuse of repellent.
Dry cleaning removes some of the active ingredient — which reduces the insect-repellent quality of the fabric.
For items that can be washed, normal home laundering is recommended. Insect Shield repellent apparel can be bleached, starched, pressed, etc., without adverse effect on the repellent quality; however, it should not be dry-cleaned.
Insect Shield Repellent Apparel has been proven and registered to repel mosquitoes, ticks, ants, biting flies, chiggers, and midges (no-see-ums). Insect Shield Repellent Gear has been proven and registered to repel mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, and biting flies. The EPA requires extensive effectiveness data to prove a product's ability to repel insects. Many species and varieties of these insects have been tested, including many that can carry dangerous diseases.
To keep your all-weather rug looking its best, try to occasionally vacuum it to keep dirt from settling deep beneath the fibers. For more information, please view our complete Care & Maintenance Instructions.

Yes. The 1188 Eco-Friendly Outdoor Rug is safe to place on top of any surface without fear of damage.
Although indoor/outdoor rugs are totally synthetic and mold can’t grow on its fibers, mold can grow on the soil and moisture trapped inside of the rug. If the rug is wet from multiple days of dew, rain, or pool parties, simply hang it over a fence or drape it over a clothing line to dry it out. This will help prolong your rug’s life, and your deck’s too. If possible, it’s a good idea to store your furniture at the end of the season.

We take great steps to ensure our manufacturing process is sustainable: for each teak tree we harvest, our partner forest plants three more saplings in its place. A single teak tree can absorb 10kg of carbon every year, helping maintain Earth's carbon balance in the face of massive climate change.
We think cradle to cradle for our product and its packaging, and consider the impact our furniture has on the planet at every step of the way.
During design, we carefully select materials that are durable. During manufacture, we look to repurpose existing materials and packaging so they can serve an unexpected purpose, add value, and bring joy to our customers. And, though everything we make is built to last, we ensure that our products are easy to recycle with your local waste management company at the end of their long lifespan.
Here’s a look at the specific sustainable features in our materials:
People are behind every piece of furniture we make, not just machines. We appreciate craftsmanship; it takes years to achieve this level of excellence. We pay all our employees fair wages, offer health insurance, and create a safe and supportive working environment. Every chair purchased contributes to someone’s livelihood. Our synthetic All-Weather Wicker is made of a combination of high- and low-density polyethylene which is fully recyclable.

Our fabric is woven from solution dyed yarn that makes it highly resistant to UV light. Using this process means the fabric won’t fade and the issue of extra dye running off into the water supply is eliminated. It is finished with the same nano coating used in performance camping gear, making our fabric stain-resistant, water-resistant, and easily cleanable. It’s also fabric is also 100% recyclable at the end of its [long] lifespan.
We were originally planning on using Sunbrella but we decided to develop our own fabric, because Sunbrella is made with solution dyed acrylic. Acrylic falls into recycle code 7, which typically goes into a landfill. Our fabric is made with a recyclable material (polypropylene) and has the same performance characteristics so it’s the best material that you can use.
We used recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) fibers to make our sustainable outdoor rugs, which is a win on multiple levels. PET is used to make plastic bottles and containers for a number of consumer products. We turned to this material because it gives plastics a second life, but also because it’s naturally stain-resistant, and, like our sofa, retains color and won’t fade in sunlight or after a harsh cleaning.
The short answer is yes. The slightly longer answer is that it depends on the waste management company in your area. We selected our palette using the International recycle codes and the materials that are the most common and easiest to recycle. We’ve learned over time that it takes all parts of the supply chain working in harmony to get a product that is easy to recycle actually recycled. While we do use the most common recycled materials, it comes down to the rules and regulations of each municipality.
We hope that our philosophy of using easy to recycle materials acts as a catalyst with small and large companies, manufacturers, lobbyists and non profits to enable change so that we can work towards a better future for our children and a gentler future for our planet.

1% for the Planet
1% for the Planet is an international organization whose members contribute at least one percent of their annual sales to environmental causes. We’re proud to support their mission to build, support and activate an alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthier planet. Through our partnership with 1% for the Planet, we’ve chosen to support the following initiatives:
The 5 Gyres Institute, for a planet free of plastic pollution, is a non-profit organization dedicated to researching the issue of plastics in the world's oceans, and engaging communities in systemic change. Our decision to partner with 5 Gyres was intentional, both from an ideological perspective and a practical one: we’re both based in California, and we specifically wanted to support a local organization.
One Tree Planted
One Tree Planted is on a mission to reforest our planet. With their program, one dollar plants one tree. With a promise to donate 1% of our revenue from the Teak Collection to their cause, we are thrilled in anticipation of the reforestation impact we, as a growing company, can make. We specifically chose to team up with One Tree Planted to aid in their reforestation efforts in Indonesia, where our teak is harvested.
